Kevin fell on a wine glass, cut his face considerably, and my granddaughter's friends didn't know where the carotid artery was located (or other pressure points). I bought "Cardiovascular Physiology" thinking it would be useful reading for the friends. At the used book price, it was very affordable.This is fascinating reading, an indepth view of the cardiovascular system and how it works, written for a medical text. The illustrations include diagrams as well as Leonardo-like drawings. The index is gloriously detailed. The writing is splendidly clear, and the topic is as good as "War and Peace" if you are interested in how our bodies work and enjoy technical depth. It is clearly intended as a medical text, marketed as such, and the author's years of teaching experience show in the organization, exposition, use of analogies, and coverage. The emphasis is more on the heart than the cardiovascular system as a whole or in relation to other systems.
However, as an aid to first aid, it isn't. My expectation was inappropriate for sure. The book is not intended for such a use and is not likely to be appropriately or quickly extrapolated.
